Series background & context

Match is one of Barbara Dunlop's most playful series, and the premise is half the fun. A group of wealthy seniors in a Florida retirement community decides that modern love can be improved with data, planning, and a matchmaking program designed by a former NASA scientist.

From there, the books send their unsuspecting heirs and younger relatives straight into trouble. An Unlikely Match pairs a rocket scientist with an actress next door. An Impractical Match throws a polished event planner into the path of a hands-on mechanic. An Extraordinary Match, An Astonishing Match, and An Unpredictable Match keep the formula going, pairing opposites who look wrong on paper until they get stuck in each other's orbit.

The series works because Dunlop never lets the concept get too cute. Yes, the meddling seniors are funny. Yes, the setup is delightfully nosy. But the romances themselves still have real emotional weight, especially around ambition, identity, and what young adults owe to themselves instead of to family expectations.

If you like romantic comedy with a strong setup, lots of banter, and warm-hearted manipulation from the older generation, Match is a great place to start.
