Series background & context

Married in Malibu is a sweet contemporary romance series set around a boutique wedding business in Southern California. The concept is simple and very readable: people who help create beautiful, paparazzi-free celebrity weddings keep finding themselves in love stories of their own.

The beachy setting helps a lot.

Malibu gives the books a relaxed, sunlit backdrop, but the series is not just scenery and wedding dresses. The work at the venue creates natural proximity, busy schedules, and lots of chances for characters to see one another clearly under pressure. That is where these romances get their shape. The people running events, designing spaces, baking cakes, taking photos, or handling security are all good at building other people's special days. Their own emotional lives are a much messier project.

Because these are Lucy Kevin books, the tone stays light on its feet. Expect tenderness, humor, and warm-hearted relationship building rather than very high steam or dark drama. The conflicts are rooted in things like old heartbreak, grief, second chances, and the fear of risking a good life for something even better.

This is an easy series to sink into if you like weddings, California-coast atmosphere, and linked standalones with a sweet emotional payoff. Start with The Beach Wedding, then keep going in order as the Malibu crew slowly find their own happily-ever-afters.
