Marilyn Turk Books in Order

Marilyn Turk was born and raised in Louisiana, and the coastal South still shapes almost everything she writes. She now lives in Florida, and the pull of the water is still there. Her books move between nineteenth-century Florida, World War II, and the occasional contemporary setting, but shorelines, storms, and lighthouses keep returning.

She likes places where beauty and danger sit close together.

Turk did not set out to become a novelist early in life. In high school, an Honors English teacher praised her writing, but she tucked that encouragement away and moved on, studying advertising and taking on many other roles before writing became central. Later, after retirement, she began what she has called a third chapter, took a correspondence course in children's writing, and started learning the craft in earnest at writers conferences.

That late start quickly turned into steady work. Her short pieces appeared in Clubhouse Jr., The Upper Room, Guideposts, Chicken Soup for the Soul, Lighthouse Digest, and other faith-based publications. She also contributed to Guideposts anthologies such as A Cup of Christmas Cheer and wrote for the annual devotional now called Walking in Grace.

A win in the 2010 Guideposts Writers Contest gave her another push forward, and fiction soon followed. Her debut novel, The Gilded Curse, blends family history, wartime nerves, and a coastal setting on Jekyll Island. From there she built the four-book Coastal Lights Legacy series, beginning with Rebel Light, where Florida history, romance, and suspense share the page.

She has kept widening the map. Abigail's Secret moves into a dual-time story about grief, restoration, and a Maine lighthouse. The Escape Game heads to World War II England and a POW escape scheme hidden inside an ordinary board game. In Secrets of the Desert Rose, she stretches farther still, linking present-day North Africa with wartime Algiers through friendship, archaeology, and a long-buried family secret. Then there is Lighthouse Devotions, which makes it plain that her interest in lighthouses is not just decorative. It is part of how she sees story, history, and faith fitting together.

She likes digging up overlooked pieces of history and asking how ordinary people might live inside them.

That explains a lot about her recurring themes. Her novels often center on women facing upheaval, widows and daughters starting over, people carrying secrets, and characters forced to decide whom they can trust. The settings matter, too. Islands, forts, beach towns, boarding houses, and prison camps are not just backdrops in her work, they create the pressure that drives the story.

These days, Turk still lives in Florida and stays close to the water she loves. She also encourages other writers, and she founded the Blue Lake Christian Writers Conference. The mix feels right for her books too, part historical curiosity, part faith, part practical storytelling, and always pulled toward the coast.
