Author bio
Marianne Mancusi grew up in Massachusetts, and that mix of New England weather, pop culture, and outsider energy still shows up in her books. She later graduated from Boston University, but long before she was publishing novels, she was already drawn to fandom, fantasy, and fast-moving stories with a little bite to them.
TV news came first.
Before she became a full-time author, she worked as a television news producer and won two Emmy awards. That background helps explain a lot about her fiction. Even when she is writing about dragons, vampires, or time travel, her books tend to move quickly, open scenes with a strong hook, and keep characters under pressure.
She has published adult romance as Marianne Mancusi and Mari Madison, and younger fiction as Mari Mancusi. Across those names, she has written more than thirty books, moving from paranormal romance to middle grade fantasy, Disney tie-ins, gamers, zombies, dragons, and time-bending adventures. What links the work is pace, humor, and a real affection for characters who feel a little out of step with the world around them.
A lot of readers first meet her through the Blood Coven books, starting with Boys that Bite, where twin sisters Sunny and Rayne stumble into a very messy vampire world. Others come in through Gamer Girl, which uses online gaming to talk about loneliness and reinvention, or Scorched, where dragons, future war, and hard choices crash together in West Texas.
Then there are the books that lean into her geekier side. The Once and Future Geek mixes King Arthur, gaming, and time travel. Dragon Ops turns a video game theme park into a survival story. New Dragon City imagines life after a dragon apocalypse, but keeps its focus on a kid trying to decide what kind of person he wants to be.
Dragons keep showing up.
She has also written in the Disney world, including Dangerous Secrets: The Story of Iduna and Agnarr and Sally's Lament. Those projects fit her well. She likes taking a familiar fantasy framework and asking what happens when fear, loyalty, crushes, family pressure, and identity start tugging at it from the inside.
Across her books, you see a lot of recurring interests. There are gamers, goths, reluctant heroes, girls and boys caught between ordinary life and something impossible, and characters who want love without disappearing into somebody else's story. Even when the worlds get bigger, the emotional problem usually stays personal.
These days she lives in Austin, Texas with her husband and their teenage daughter. She has said she loves travel, horror movies, cosplay, snowboarding, and video games, and all of that feels present in the work. Her books are often the most fun when they let those interests collide at full speed.
