The Magic Faraway Tree books begin with a simple childhood wish: what if the wood behind your home really was magical? Joe, Beth, and Frannie move to the countryside and discover the Enchanted Wood on their doorstep. Deep inside it stands a tree so enormous that it reaches into the clouds, and climbing it leads to far stranger places than the children expected.

The tree is a home as well as a route to adventure. Its branches hold memorable neighbours, including Silky, Moonface, and the Saucepan Man. There are little houses, odd visitors, slippery ways down, and fruit that seems to grow in every possible variety. It is a warm, busy place, but it also has its share of grumpy characters and surprises.

At the very top, a different land arrives from time to time. One visit might bring the Land of Treats, another a topsy-turvy world, a place full of spells, or a land where the rules are not what the children expect.
