In Spells and Spiced Latte, that ability reveals a customer lying dead in her kitchen. When the vision comes true, Maddie cannot simply carry on serving coffee. She wants answers.

Her magic is useful, but it is not a cheat code. Maddie has only a few spells at hand, and the visions can create as many questions as they answer. That keeps the mysteries rooted in conversations, local suspects, practical clues, and the combined efforts of Maddie, Suzanne, and Trixie. Visions and Vanilla Cappuccino sends the trio into a coffee festival murder, while Magic, Mocha and Murder moves the action to a barista competition in Seattle. Later books put them in enclosed, high-pressure situations, including a stormy retreat and a catering job where Suzanne becomes a suspect.

Suzanne is more than a sidekick. She works alongside Maddie, questions her ideas, and joins the search when a crime affects their customers or friends. The coffee truck gives the pair a reason to know the town's gossip, routines, and tensions, while Maddie's magic gives the series its extra spark.
