The MacLean Curse books are where Karen Hawkins leans fully into Scottish historical romance. The MacLeans are not a quiet family.

Sleepless in Scotland pulls in the Hurst twins and lands proper Catriona in the middle of a trap meant for someone else. By The Laird Who Loved Me, the series is confidently playing with revenge plots, house parties, mythic tasks, and all the emotional mess that comes when a clan has a very long memory.

What links the books is not just the curse, though that matters. It is the family atmosphere. The MacLeans are passionate, meddling, and deeply entangled in one another's lives. Even when a book focuses on one couple, you feel the larger clan behind them, watching, advising, interfering, and usually making things more difficult before they get better.

Hawkins also uses Scotland as more than wallpaper here. The landscape, the travel, the old grudges, and the divide between Highland and London expectations all shape the stories. These are romances with movement. People are chasing each other across snow, along roads, into inns, and back into family strongholds.
