Series background & context

The MacKenzie Family books revolve around a close, capable family whose roots run deep in Surrender, Montana. The earliest stories introduce brothers and cousins finding love while dealing with old hurts, dangerous work, and the expectations that come with being a MacKenzie.

Family is the center of this world.

The short early romances, including Dane, Thomas, Riley, and Cooper, establish the town and the family dynamic. Each book gives a different MacKenzie relative a romantic storyline, from second chances to strangers thrown together by trouble. Those novellas lead into longer books that widen the setting and raise the suspense.

As the series grows, the MacKenzies become linked to security work, law enforcement, military backgrounds, and missions that put people they love at risk. The books balance romantic heat with kidnappings, betrayals, investigations, and threats that often reach back into the family's past. Familiar faces regularly turn up to help, argue, or make an already complicated situation more complicated.

Surrender is more than scenery. It is the place characters return to when they need backup, a safe house, or someone willing to tell them the truth. The town's sense of community gives the action a grounded feeling, even when the plot moves into international crime or covert operations.

Readers can begin with Dane for the first introduction to the family. Readers who want the longer, higher-stakes romantic-suspense side can start with Cade, then continue through the MacKenzie Security books. Either route offers an interconnected set of stories about loyalty, second chances, and the people who show up when it counts.
