Series background & context
The Lucky Dog books are warm contemporary romances where the dogs are not just cute background detail. They are the whole reason people meet, collide, or keep seeing each other when common sense says they should go home. That makes the series feel especially easygoing and welcoming.
The two books use that setup in slightly different ways. You Lucky Dog begins with a rescue-dog mix-up that lands Carly and Max on each other's doorsteps. It Started with a Dog uses foster dogs and a coffee-shop rivalry to throw Harper and Jonah together during the holidays. In both cases, the pets do what good romance-sidekicks do best, make avoidance impossible.
These stories are contemporary, funny, and a little softer around the edges than some of London's flashier series. The conflicts still matter, work stress, family strain, competing businesses, but the overall feeling is comfort rather than chaos.
If you want romance with rescue animals, opposites attracting, and people slowly realizing they are happier when they stop trying to control everything, Lucky Dog is a very good series to curl up with.
