Series background & context

The Love Story books take a quieter, more intimate approach to romance while still delivering the family ties and emotional fallout that run through so much of Natasha Madison’s work. Set in and around a small community, the series follows three couples whose lives are upended by the secrets of one man.

In Perfect Love Story, Hailey discovers that the life she built is nothing like what she thought. The man she married wasn’t really hers to marry, and the vows she meant with her whole heart turn out to be based on lies. Picking up and moving to the country is less a dream than a survival strategy. There, with a new house and new neighbors, she begins to rebuild. Jensen, a single dad carrying his own disappointments, becomes both temptation and safety as they navigate the idea of trusting again.

Unexpected Love Story focuses on Crystal, the strong friend who has always been the steady one. A private diagnosis knocks that confidence sideways and convinces her that love is not something she can risk. Gabe seems to have everything together—a thriving medical practice, a planned future, the woman he expects to marry—until a runaway bride moment shatters those plans. Working side by side pulls Crystal and Gabe into each other’s orbit, forcing them to confront what it means to hope after you’ve already lost so much.

Broken Love Story gives the final word to characters most directly tied to the man whose betrayal set everything in motion. It looks at the people left behind when the truth of a double life comes out: the partners who were lied to, the families who have to pick up the pieces, and the children caught in between. The romance grows out of shared grief and anger, and the question of whether it’s possible to build something honest on the ruins of something so broken.

All three books are about second chances, but they are also about reshaping what love is supposed to look like. Instead of fairy-tale firsts, these couples deal with mortgages, co-parenting, blended friend groups, and the complicated loyalty that comes from loving people who have hurt you. The series reads best in order, starting with Perfect Love Story, so that each reveal lands with its full emotional weight and each new relationship feels like a step forward for the entire circle of characters.
