Series background & context

Love Is Love is one of Leigh Lennon's clearest statements about the kinds of stories she wants to tell. The series centers queer romance, but it is not built around a single mood or setup. Instead, it follows different men through friendship, longing, heartbreak, public pressure, and the risk of finally being honest.

My Only Reason opens with Ryder and Crush, using a best-friends-to-lovers setup and a football backdrop to explore desire that has been buried for years. My Only Regret shifts into second-chance territory with Dallas and Banks, where old betrayal and a fake relationship setup keep the emotional tension high. My Only Defense brings in Garrison and Lawson, two men carrying damage of their own who meet at a point where neither is exactly ready for love.

That variety gives the series its shape. Some books are about coming out. Some are about reunion. Some are about the difference between wanting connection and being able to handle it. Across the board, though, Lennon keeps returning to vulnerability. Her characters are often big personalities or outwardly tough men, but the story usually turns on the moment they stop performing and tell the truth.

There is also a strong sense of community running through the series. Friends, teammates, chosen family, and familiar faces keep reappearing, which helps the books feel connected even when the central couple changes. The world gets richer as you move through it.

Love Is Love is steamy, emotional, and deeply interested in identity, shame, and acceptance. If you want contemporary romance with queer leads, plenty of feeling, and a mix of sports, friendship, and second chances, this is one of Lennon's most inviting entry points.
