Series background & context

The Love From books follow Adam Chen and Zayneb Malik, two Muslim teens whose relationship begins during a spring break trip to Doha. Love from A to Z lets readers hear from both of them through their private journals, where Zayneb records the “oddities” that trouble her and Adam notices the “marvels” that keep him going. They meet when both are carrying worries they have not fully shared with the people around them.

Zayneb arrives in Doha early after confronting a teacher whose classroom comments about Muslims have pushed her too far. She wants to become a calmer, less angry version of herself, even though her anger has a real source. Adam has pulled away from school after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He is grieving his mother, trying to protect his father and younger sister, and finding comfort in making things with his hands.

Their connection is gentle, funny, and far from simple.

The first book is a romance, but it also gives space to Islamophobia, chronic illness, grief, activism, family pressure, and the relief of being understood by someone new. Doha matters as more than a stop on a trip. It is the place where Adam and Zayneb can step outside their usual routines, but not outside the problems waiting for them. Their Muslim faith shapes how they think about intention, responsibility, hope, and what a relationship can look like.

Love from Mecca to Medina picks up with Adam in Doha and Zayneb in Chicago. When they get the chance to make Umrah, the pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina, they hope the journey will bring them closer and give each of them a needed reset. Instead, travel stresses, old insecurities, and the presence of people from Adam's past make it harder to say what they mean. The story follows them through the pilgrimage without pretending that a meaningful setting can instantly solve personal problems.

Read the books in order, starting with Love from A to Z. Together, they are warm, character-led romances about two young people learning how to be honest with themselves, with each other, and with the people they love.
