Turn-Coupe and the surrounding bayou country help hold the series together. The setting feels humid, close, and specific, full of waterways, local memory, and the kind of small-town talk that can either protect you or make life impossible.

If you want Jennifer Blake in a contemporary mood, but still with strong place and stronger family ties, this is one of her best entry points. The books are linked, but each couple gets a complete story.
