Author bio
Lori Wick is an American novelist whose Christian romances have been a steady presence on inspirational fiction shelves since the early 1990s. She writes both historical and contemporary stories, moving easily from Victorian England to the American West to modern city life.
Raised in the American Midwest, she grew up loving books, church life, and the feeling of getting lost in a story. After high school she spent time in Bible school and local ministry rather than in formal writing programs, and she has often described herself as a small town girl who learned to write by paying attention to people and to her faith.
In the late 1980s she reached a point where the stories she wanted to read would not leave her alone. With encouragement from friends and her husband Bob, she sat down to try a novel of her own. That manuscript became A Place Called Home, published in 1990, and it introduced readers to the kind of gentle, faith centered storytelling that would mark her career.
From there Wick wrote quickly, building a string of interconnected series. The A Place Called Home novels follow Christine Bennett and the small farming community of Baxter in the early 1900s. The Californians move the focus to an 1870s missionary family who trade the tropics of Hawaii for the rugged hills and coastal towns of California. With the Kensington Chronicles and Rocky Mountain Memories, she widened the canvas again, sending characters to Victorian drawing rooms, Arabian palaces, mountain mining camps, and ranches in the Colorado Territory.
Later series such as The English Garden, the Yellow Rose books, the Tucker Mills Trilogy, and Big Sky Dreams keep the same mix of romance, community, and faith but shift the details. One reader might meet the Steele family in a Regency era English village, another might ride alongside Texas Rangers and small town deputies, and another might settle into the slow rhythms of a New England mill town or a Montana frontier church.
Alongside the series, Wick has written stand alone novels that many readers cite as favorites. Sophie's Heart pairs a widowed American father with a highly educated immigrant from Czechoslovakia who is making beds and doing dishes far below her abilities. Pretense follows the Bishop sisters over two decades as their family weathers military life, loss, and spiritual awakening. In The Princess, an ordinary young woman is chosen to marry the prince of the fictional kingdom of Pendaran, while Bamboo & Lace, Every Storm, and White Chocolate Moments explore cross cultural adjustment, wartime loss, and complicated family legacies in contemporary settings.
Across all of these books, certain themes keep returning. Wick likes to write about grief and second chances, about people who carry quiet wounds and discover that God is not finished with them yet. Her romances stay physically restrained and emotionally open, with a strong emphasis on marriage, family, and the daily work of loving other people well. Readers often recognize her trademark touches - close knit church communities, men and women who pray together, and a steady belief that forgiveness really can change the course of a life.
Over the years her novels have sold millions of copies in North America and abroad. She has appeared regularly on Christian fiction bestseller lists, received Christian Retailing's Best award for women's fiction, and been a finalist several times for the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association's Gold Medallion. Many fans first discovered inspirational romance through her books and then kept them on the shelf to reread.
Wick makes her home in Wisconsin with her husband, Bob, and their three children, whom she has jokingly referred to as the "coolest kids in the world". After decades of steady publication she has stepped back from releasing new work, choosing a quieter pace of life centered on family, faith, and local church involvement.
For new readers, her stories still feel like a warm light in the window, small towns, big houses, and distant ports where people wrestle honestly with God and with each other, and where love grows at a pace that lets you enjoy the scenery.
