Author bio

Liz Bradford writes Christian romantic suspense about detectives, FBI agents, first responders, and ordinary people trying to keep their footing when life turns dangerous. She was born in North Carolina, and even her pen name comes from family history, Bradford is a family name she chose because it was easier for readers to remember and share.

Reading did not come easily at first.

She has written about struggling with books as a fifth grader until she found the Three Cousins Detectives Club series. That was the switch. Reading became fun, and years later it feels fitting that the first series she built as a writer would also center on detectives.

Bradford did not grow up thinking she would become a novelist. She was homeschooled, later became an elementary teacher, and kept writing mostly to herself for years. Then, when her middle daughter was a little over a year old, a story idea would not leave her alone. She started staying up late after everyone else was asleep so she could get the words down.

That first manuscript stayed on her hard drive, but it started the habit.

Soon another story arrived, Becca and Jared's, and that became Not Alone. From there she built out the Hazel Hill books, including Pursued, On Your Knees, A Shot at Redemption, and Giants Fall, all set around a North Carolina police department where every case seems to touch somebody's private life. Later she widened the lens with the Knoxville FBI novels, beginning with Into the Flames, where a missing child case opens into the darker world of trafficking.

Her fiction kept branching after that. Under Fire, Smoky Escape, and Out of the Ashes continue the Knoxville thread. Abandoned and Betrayed move to police and fire characters in the same Hazel Hill world. Too Late and Swept Away bring in K-9 search and rescue. Even her Christmas stories, like A Frightful Noel and Stone Cold Christmas, keep suspense close at hand.

What readers tend to find in Bradford's books is a mix of pressure and tenderness. The crimes can be hard, serial killers, stalking, trafficking, old assaults, missing people, but the stories are just as interested in fear, guilt, forgiveness, and second chances. Her faith thread is open rather than hidden, and her characters often have to deal with spiritual questions at the same time they are trying to stay alive.

Place matters in her work. She has said her heart is drawn to North Carolina and Tennessee, which helps explain why those settings keep returning. Her towns and cities are not just scenery; they shape the people, the jobs, the family ties, and the kind of trouble that can find them.

These days Bradford lives in Southern Indiana with her husband and their three daughters, and homeschooling is a big part of her daily life. She describes herself as a second-generation homeschooler, and she is active in Christian writing groups, including ACFW Louisville. That mix of family life, faith, and late-night storytelling seems to sit right at the center of what she writes.
