Series background & context
A Lineage of Grace is a five‑part series of novellas that imagines the lives of the women named in Jesus’ genealogy—Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary. Each book retells familiar passages of Scripture from a woman’s point of view, filling in daily routines, relationships, fears, and acts of courage while staying rooted in the biblical account.
Unveiled: Tamar introduces a young Canaanite woman married into Judah’s family. Left widowed, childless, and increasingly sidelined, Tamar realizes that the promises made to her will never be honored unless she takes extraordinary action. Her story explores justice, desperation, and bold faith as she risks her reputation to secure a future within the family God has chosen.
In Unashamed: Rahab, Rivers turns to Jericho on the eve of Israel’s invasion. Rahab has survived by selling both information and her own body, yet she has listened carefully to stories about Israel’s God. When two Hebrew spies arrive at her door, she must decide whether to protect herself and her city or to trust the God she has never seen for the sake of her family.
Unshaken: Ruth follows the Moabite widow who refuses to abandon her embittered mother‑in‑law, Naomi. Leaving home and security, Ruth travels to Bethlehem, gathers leftover grain in the fields, and gradually forms a bond with Boaz, a landowner who notices her quiet loyalty. Their unfolding love story is as much about steadfast character as romance.
Unspoken: Bathsheba gives voice to a woman often reduced to a few stark verses. Here Bathsheba is portrayed as a young wife swept into King David’s choices, then left to live with grief, political intrigue, and the weight of her own compromises. The novella traces how she comes to see herself not only as the object of sin but also as a recipient of mercy, and the mother of Solomon.
Finally, Unafraid: Mary follows the mother of Jesus from her betrothal in Nazareth through the angel’s announcement, the hidden years in Nazareth, his public ministry, crucifixion, and resurrection. Rivers shows Mary as a real woman who struggles with fear and confusion even as she clings to the promises she has been given.
Taken together, the series highlights how God works through unlikely, sometimes scandal‑marked lives to move His story forward. Each novella includes devotional elements in its original edition, making the series well suited for readers who want both an engaging story and material for reflection on the biblical text.
