The Lighthouse Cove romance series returns in an announced second installment. Set within Kate Hewitt’s coastal series, this forthcoming story follows Escape to Lighthouse Cove and is scheduled for publication in 2027.
Series background & context
Lighthouse Cove is Kate Hewitt's contemporary romance series set on a small island off the Maine coast. Its opening story follows a woman who wants distance from a painful marriage and a public divorce. The island offers work, a quieter environment and the possibility of beginning again with her son. Yet the same remoteness that makes it look like a refuge also brings her into contact with someone else trying to withdraw from the world.
In Escape to Lighthouse Cove, Grace arrives with six-year-old Jacob to run a small nature reserve. A place with only a handful of residents seems to promise the safety and privacy she needs. The job gives her a practical purpose as well as a destination, making the move more than a holiday from difficult circumstances. She is trying to establish somewhere that she and her child can live, rather than simply wait for the past to become less painful.
A quiet island still has other people on it.
Grace meets Noah Lawrence when her attempt to help a seal on his property leads to trouble on the shoreline. Noah, the island's wealthy owner, is reclusive and unwelcoming, and his manner immediately unsettles her. His wealth and apparent arrogance remind her of qualities she associates with her former husband. Attraction therefore comes with understandable resistance. She has reasons to distrust what he represents before she knows enough about the person behind his withdrawal.
Noah also has secrets and reasons for keeping his distance. That parallel gives the romance its central complication: two people can recognize a wish for solitude without understanding the experiences that created it. Grace needs to protect Jacob as well as herself, so any new connection has implications beyond her own feelings. Getting to know Noah requires her to judge the present carefully while carrying knowledge gained from a relationship that harmed her.
The nature reserve and coastline provide a setting in which care, work and vulnerability meet. The seal rescue brings the characters together through something Grace tries to do, rather than through a search for romance. The island's scale also makes its promise of privacy complicated. It may offer separation from the wider world, but it doesn't remove the need to deal with neighbors, boundaries and unexpected help. Starting over means choosing how to live among those new connections.
Begin with Escape to Lighthouse Cove, which introduces the setting through Grace, Jacob and Noah. A Second Chance at Lighthouse Cove is the following installment. The tone is coastal romance with an emphasis on recovery, family and the possibility of trusting someone again. The opening novel has its own complete romantic story, while the island provides the shared home for the series. Its central question is how a place chosen for escape might also become somewhere a person can begin to belong.
