Author bio

Lesley Jones was born and raised in Essex, England, and that Essex streak still runs right through her books. In 2006, she moved to Australia with her family and settled near Melbourne, giving her work a mix of British humour, emotional directness, and an easy feel for Australian settings.

Essex never really left her.

Her writing career began with Saviour in 2013, a contemporary romance that later returned in a revised and expanded form as Saving Ren. That first book introduced many of the things readers now expect from her, real-world mess, sharp banter, big feelings, and characters who do not arrive polished or emotionally tidy. People in a Lesley Jones novel usually have baggage, and quite a lot of it.

Her breakout came with The Story of Us, the opening novel in the Carnage series. That book, followed by The Story of Me and Marley, helped build her reputation for writing emotional romance with a rock-and-roll edge. The Carnage books found a loyal readership, landed on bestseller lists, and even picked up reader-voted praise for making people cry harder than they expected.

That became her lane.

Jones has a real fondness for stories about people trying to rebuild themselves after heartbreak, betrayal, grief, or bad decisions. In Saving Ren, she writes a later-in-life love story about a woman starting over after an abusive marriage. In Falling and Fading, she shifts into a more intimate, close-to-home emotional drama. In All The Forbidden Things, she leans into taboo attraction and difficult timing. Even when the setup changes, the emotional core stays familiar, love colliding with damage that has not healed yet.

Music turns up a lot in her work, especially in Carnage and Conviction, but the real focus is usually on family, loyalty, guilt, and the fallout from choices people cannot take back. Her characters tend to be down to earth, funny in stressful situations, and capable of hurting each other while still loving each other deeply. Readers who like high emotion often mention that her books can make them laugh, wince, and tear up within a few chapters.

Outside writing, she has described herself as a big reader who can get through several books a week. She also enjoys music, reality TV, travelling, football, spicy food, and a glass of wine. Those small personal details fit the tone of her fiction too. Her books may go to dark places, but they are not cold.

She has also said that one of the best parts of the job is meeting readers, and over the years she has travelled for signings and events. That connection shows. Her novels often feel conversational and close, like stories told by someone who knows exactly when to make you laugh and exactly when to break your heart.

Today, her bibliography stretches from long, angsty series to standalones such as A Cowboy in Essex and Repulse. What links them is simple. Lesley Jones writes contemporary romance about flawed people, strong feelings, and the very messy business of finding a way forward.
