The Legacy of Lancaster trilogy is a contemporary Amish family drama set in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It begins with Leaving Lancaster, when Holly Fisher learns that her mother, Esther, has kept a life-changing secret from her: Holly has Amish relatives she has never met. Her grandmother and uncle are still living on the family farm, and Esther is being asked to return to the community she left behind.

Holly wants the family connection she has always missed. Esther is frightened of facing the people and choices she left years ago. Their trip to Lancaster puts a mother and daughter with very different needs into a world that feels both familiar and completely foreign.

In Pennsylvania Patchwork, Holly is still learning what her newly discovered relatives and heritage mean for her life. Romance gets complicated when she falls for Zach, a Mennonite veterinarian who seems ready to offer her the future she wants. Esther and Holly's Amish grandmother, Anna, worry that Holly is moving too fast, while other possible suitors and old tensions make every choice harder.

The trilogy's final novel, Forever Amish, brings a young English woman and her father into the Amish community as another hidden past begins to surface. It widens the story beyond Holly and Esther while keeping the same concerns close at hand: what deception does to a family, who gets to claim a place in it, and whether forgiveness can survive the truth.
