Legacy Fleet Books in Order

The Legacy Fleet series takes the original trilogy and turns it into a much larger war story. It still begins with Captain Tim Granger and the old ISS Constitution facing the Swarm, but it does not stay there. What starts as a survival tale gradually opens into a long, serialized space opera about repeated wars, buried alien history, political fractures inside United Earth, and the uncomfortable fact that beating one enemy rarely leaves the galaxy simple again.

Granger is the anchor early on, but he is not the only one who matters. One of the big strengths of the longer series is Admiral Shelby Proctor. She begins as one of the sharp minds around Granger, then grows into the central commander of later books. After the events of the first war, the series jumps forward and follows her back into service aboard the ISS Independence, a newer ship in a future that still cannot stop making old mistakes. That shift keeps the series from feeling like the same battle repeated nine times.

The war changes, and so do the people fighting it.

From Independence onward, Webb widens the universe. There are conspiracies inside the fleet, mysteries buried on Titan, former allies acting like enemies, and whole alien races with their own grudges, fears, and stories about the Swarm. Later books such as Legend, Leviathan, and Majestic push farther into the mythic side of the setting, where Granger becomes more than a famous captain and several species begin treating him like the answer to prophecies, old engineering, or both. The stakes get bigger, but the books still keep returning to crews, bridges, squadrons, and the people stuck making the next call.

Tone matters here. This is still military science fiction, with lots of combat, ship movement, command disputes, and last-minute plans. But compared with the first trilogy, the later series leans harder into mystery and layered history. The question is not only how to beat the Swarm. It is what the Swarm are, what other civilizations did in response to them, and what kind of future humanity deserves if it survives long enough to claim one.

Because of that, Legacy Fleet works best for readers who want a continuous saga. These are not casual drop-in adventures. Characters carry scars, decisions echo across several books, and the setting keeps building on itself. Read in order, start with Constitution, and expect the scope to keep expanding.
