She had hoped music might be a clean break from her old life. Instead, it brings her into the middle of a murder case in Vice and Virtue, when a clown dies at a children’s birthday party where Layla is performing. Layla may no longer have a badge, but she still knows how to look at a scene, ask an uncomfortable question, and recognize when a story does not add up.
