Always shifts to Sadona Lassiter, who is coming out of a divorce and has no real appetite for starting over. Then an injured dog brings her into the orbit of veterinarian Keith Fremont, and the relationship grows in a slower, gentler way. There is still heat, but there is also a lot of care in how Avery handles people who have been disappointed before. Sadona and Keith are both carrying betrayal, which makes their connection feel earned rather than easy.

Across the series, the men are memorable, a fire chief, a firefighter, a vet, but the emotional center stays with the sisters and the choices they make for themselves. Avery writes them as adults with jobs, routines, and people depending on them. These are romances about healing as much as attraction. If you want connected love stories with family banter, real setbacks, and women who do not hand over their hearts lightly, the Lassiter Sisters books are a very satisfying place to start.
