Series background & context
Jeff Wheeler’s Landmoor novels follow Thealos Quickfellow, a young Shae whose journey beyond his homeland draws him into a struggle over a dangerously powerful substance. The sequence begins with Landmoor and continues in Silverkin. Its central conflict brings together an endangered people, rival human powers, and magic whose usefulness cannot be separated from its capacity for destruction.
Thealos comes from Avisahn, a Shae kingdom that has withdrawn from the wider world. His departure begins as an attempt to understand the threat posed by the Bandit Rebellion. Meeting Jaerod, a mysterious Sleepwalker, connects that investigation to something older and larger. Thealos may be able to open a way to a Silvan artifact associated with Everoot, a substance that can heal terrible injuries but also become an instrument of devastation.
The journey leads toward the fortress of Landmoor, where the disturbance of ancient protections has made the struggle for Everoot urgent. The weakening of Avisahn and Dos-Aralon creates an opportunity for enemies seeking a new stronghold. Thealos and Jaerod must travel through a world in which neither human nor Shae identity guarantees safety. Political rivalry and the pursuit of forbidden power give the quest consequences beyond the survival of its two travelers.
At Landmoor, the promise of healing is inseparable from the threat of destruction.
Silverkin develops the conflict around another ancient object, a talisman hidden beneath the fortress. The Silverkin can overcome Forbidden Magic, making it a potential answer to the forces threatening Thealos’s people. Possessing a claim to it, however, does not mean he understands how to use it or what its use will demand. The Sorian surrounding Landmoor are themselves divided by competing ambitions, adding another obstacle between Thealos and the power he seeks. The fortress remains both a destination and a place where different struggles converge.
Across the two books, Thealos’s movement from an isolated homeland toward the responsibilities of a Sleepwalker gives the larger conflict its personal thread. Learning about his heritage means confronting obligations as well as discovering abilities. The novels connect the familiar fantasy journey toward a hidden artifact with questions about sacrifice, inheritance, and the cost of saving a community. Their continuing story follows the same struggle through changing forms of magical power, with Landmoor establishing the quest and Silverkin carrying forward the demands it places on Thealos. Reading them in that order preserves the development of the world, the central partnership, and the choices surrounding Everoot.
