Kyler Knightly and Damon Cole belong to one of Nik Morton's more playful setups. Instead of police work, frontier justice, or Cold War espionage, this series throws itself into time travel. In their future, the old government Time Corps has been deregulated, and the job of protecting history now belongs to a private outfit called Continuity Inc.

That premise gives the stories room to be clever without becoming cold.

Kyler and his uncle Damon are field agents for Continuity Inc, sent into the past when history starts to wobble. They travel using the Zygma projector and have to carry a focus object from the period they are targeting, a detail that helps the machinery of the series feel specific rather than hand-wavy. Kyler brings something extra to the job as well: he is a dreamer with passive precognitive abilities, which means intuition and danger often arrive together.

The supporting setup is half serious science fiction, half gleeful pulp. The head of the organization is Sennacherib, an artificial intelligence with an organic interface that shares the body of a two-spot octopus in an aquarium. The offices occupy a disused theatre in London's West End. Those touches tell you a lot about the tone. Morton is happy to keep the stakes real while also enjoying the weirdness of his own idea.

The book listed here, Continuity Girl, contains two adventures. In the first, Kyler and the mysterious Tertia Beynon travel to Roman Britain in 192 AD to track an academic whose interference could radically alter the future. Hadrian's Wall, winter conditions, druids, sacrifice, and violence all play their part. In the second story, corpses drained of blood point Kyler and Damon toward Transylvania in 1897, where the discovery of time travel seems to have fractured reality into branching streams in which fiction can become fact. That is where the series shows its hand most clearly: it likes smashing historical adventure into speculative what-if territory.

So what should readers expect? Quick-moving missions, different periods, paradox problems, and the pleasure of seeing history used as an action landscape rather than a museum display. The books are interested in cause and effect, but not in a dry way. A single disruption can change futures, create parallel realities, or let monstrous possibilities spill into the wrong century.

Even when the stories are fun, the stakes are large. If Kyler and Damon fail, people do not just die. Whole timelines can buckle.
