Author bio
Kristine Raymond grew up in Rhode Island, later lived in Flagstaff, Arizona, and now calls Kentucky home. That mix of places helps explain her range a little. She writes historical western romance, contemporary romance, mystery, and nonfiction, and her books often sit somewhere between a comfort read and a burst of trouble.
She did not spend her early life planning to become a novelist.
In interviews, Raymond has said the turning point came on Labor Day weekend in 2013. She had toyed with the idea of writing for years, then a friend told her about self-publishing and she decided to give it a try. The result was Here to Stay, the first book in what became her Hidden Springs series.
That first series was rooted in something older than her publishing career. Raymond has said she loved westerns as a kid, and after moving to Flagstaff in her twenties she got to explore parts of Arizona that later helped shape Hidden Springs. The series follows the people of a fictional town across nine books, from Here to Stay and Hearts on Fire to Coming Home and Enduring Traditions. Readers who like connected communities, recurring characters, and romance with a little dust and danger tend to feel at home there.
Small towns matter a lot in her work.
That is true in her contemporary books too. The Celebration trilogy, beginning with By Dawn's Early Light and continuing through Reservations for Two and Under the Mistletoe, leans into second chances, friendship, and the push and pull of close-knit places where everybody notices everything. Later, she took a sharp turn with Tempted, a darker contemporary drama about marriage, desire, and consequences.
Raymond has also shown a taste for changing lanes when a story nudges her that way. Seasons of Love collects four romance stories tied to the calendar, while Finn-agled opens a cozy mystery set in the seaside town of Port New, where an antiques dealer gets pulled into codes, crime, and chaos. Even her nonfiction book, 'write words' A Year in the Life of an Indie Author, came from curiosity. She wrote it as an honest look at what she learned during her first year of publishing, not as a rule book.
Across genres, a few things keep showing up. She likes second chances. She likes people with history, people who have been bruised a bit, and people who need to decide whether trust is still worth the risk. She has said she tries to give even fictional plots a sense of realism, that feeling that maybe this could happen to someone you know.
Outside the books, Raymond also hosted the podcast Word Play with Kristine Raymond, where writers talked about reading, writing, and whatever else came to mind. She has described herself as happily married and surrounded by a lively mix of pets at home in Kentucky. When she is not writing, she has said she spends time on the business side of publishing, reads, gardens, and occasionally gives in to a good Netflix binge.
