Author bio
Kristin Harper grew up in New England, where time spent with her family on Cape Cod became one of the lasting threads in her life. The coast, its weather, and the simple pleasure of returning to a familiar summer place would later help shape the fictional Dune Island at the heart of her fiction.
Creative writing was an early interest, alongside those Cape Cod visits. Harper eventually earned an MFA in creative writing, building the training that would support her move into women’s fiction.
Her route to a full-time writing life was not a straight line. Before that change, she worked in several professional roles, including college professor, data analyst, and development director.
Then she made writing her full-time job.
Harper’s Dune Island novels began with Summer at Hope Haven in 2020. The book follows Emily, an artist reeling from loss who returns to the island cottage where her family once vacationed. A renovation project, a new relationship, and a discovery about her parents give the story its forward pull.
The later books keep returning to homes that hold more history than their new caretakers expect. In Aunt Ivy’s Cottage, Zoey comes back to help her elderly great-aunt and finds a mystery in the attic. A Letter from Nana Rose brings three sisters to their grandmother’s beach house, where letters from beyond the grave uncover a hidden family past. In Lily’s Secret Inheritance, a single mother inherits a cranberry farm, while My Grandmother’s Inn follows Molly’s fight to keep a beloved inn open after her grandmother’s death.
The beach is not just scenery here.
Harper’s characters often arrive on Dune Island after grief, a breakup, an inheritance, or a major disappointment. They have practical problems to solve, from saving a house or business to deciding what to do with a family legacy. Along the way, old secrets surface, relationships are tested, and a possible new romance gives the present-day story another layer.
She has lived in several parts of the United States, including the West Coast and Washington, D.C. Harper is now back in Massachusetts, near Cape Cod, the real-world coastline that continues to feed the atmosphere of her novels.
Her books are built for readers who enjoy family stories with a seaside setting, a quiet mystery in the past, and people trying to make a home for themselves in the present.
