Author bio

Kristen KN Banet writes fantasy and paranormal romance under two closely linked names. As Kristen Banet, she published reverse-harem stories in epic fantasy, urban fantasy, and paranormal romance. As K.N. Banet, she built the connected Tribunal Archives world, where werecats, vampires, fae, and other dangerous things keep making life harder for stubborn women.

She now lives in Arizona with her husband and five pets, a household she has jokingly described as a zoo. When she is not writing, she has said she is usually reading or gaming, which fits the feeling of her books. They read like stories made by someone who genuinely likes spending time inside big worlds.

She came to storytelling early.

In a personal essay, Banet wrote about making up long, dramatic stories with stuffed animals as a child, full of war, betrayal, romance, and high emotion. Reading did not come easily at first. She nearly repeated kindergarten, then fell hard for books once she caught up in first grade. Her family moved often for her father's job, and she has written about spending important childhood years in Jacksonville, Texas, a place that later found its way into her fiction.

As she got older, storytelling shifted mediums. She loved anime and manga for a time and wanted to draw comics, so art became a serious goal. She also played sports, stayed busy, and carried a lot more private turmoil than most people around her probably saw. That mix of imagination, observation, and emotional baggage still feels close to the way she writes people now.

Her twenties took a sharper turn. Banet joined the U.S. Navy, served in Japan, and worked as a medic in a hospital setting. During that period she also hit a wall with alcohol and eventually sought help through outpatient rehab and therapy, something she has discussed with unusual bluntness. That part of her life shows up in her fiction, not as memoir, but in the way her characters deal with trauma, shame, survival, and the stubborn work of trying again.

That turn matters.

After leaving the Navy in 2014, she went back to school, tried to make art work as a job, and slid into depression. By mid-2017, she needed a different creative outlet and returned to writing prose. One unpublished book came first, then Wild Pride, her first released novel, in October 2017. Not long after came A Life of Shadows, the start of the Redemption Saga, and she has been building outward ever since.

Readers tend to find different doors into her work. Some start with Age of the Andinna for the big fantasy scale and Mave Lorren's brutal, hard-earned growth from enslaved gladiator to liberator. Others go to Jacky Leon for a tougher urban fantasy voice and a heroine whose sense of duty keeps dragging her into supernatural politics. Kaliya Sahni adds a sharper, more chaotic bounty-hunter energy, while Everly Abbott leans into darker vampire thriller territory.

Across all of those books, a few things keep returning. Banet likes damaged characters who are still capable of love. She likes found family, responsibility, and people trying to choose a better life without pretending the past did not happen. Even when the setup is full of shifters, warlocks, or winged warriors, the emotional core is usually about trust, power, and the slow business of figuring out where you belong.

These days, she still sounds like someone who thinks of herself as a storyteller first and an author second. That fits. Whether she is writing a massive rebellion fantasy or a tight supernatural mystery, the same impulse is there, to build a world, push complicated people into it, and see what they do when it finally costs them something.
