Author bio

Kresley Cole writes the kind of big, high‑octane romances that turn casual readers into late‑night obsessives. She is best known for her long‑running Immortals After Dark paranormal saga, the young adult Arcana Chronicles, the erotic contemporary Game Maker books, and a handful of lush historical romances.

Before she was building immortal empires on the page, she was focused on the real world. She earned a master’s degree, worked as an athlete and coach, and wrote articles and reviews while she was still in school. That mix of discipline, research, and competitive drive shows up everywhere in her fiction, from brutal training scenes to the way her characters grind their way toward a hard‑won happy ending.

She sold her first historical romance in the early 2000s and quickly carved out a space with the Sutherland and MacCarrick books. Those stories follow sea captains and Highland warriors through shipwrecks, feuds, and curses, pairing them with women who are just as stubborn as they are. Even in these early novels you can see the fingerprints of her later work: fast pacing, sharp banter, and a willingness to throw her characters into real danger.

Paranormal readers usually meet her through Immortals After Dark, a sprawling series set in the Lore, a hidden world where vampires, Lykae, Valkyries, demons, witches, and other factions coexist alongside humans. Each book centers on a new couple, but the cast keeps crossing paths as an ancient event called the Accession stirs up a war for survival. Titles like A Hunger Like No Other, Lothaire, MacRieve, and Wicked Abyss have become comfort rereads for many fans, even when the stories themselves are bloody, angsty, and full of sharp humor.

For teen and crossover readers, she built a different kind of end of the world in the Arcana Chronicles. Starting with Poison Princess, that series puts tarot archetypes into the bodies of modern teenagers and drops them into a post‑apocalyptic game where only one can win. The books lean into moral gray areas, complicated loyalty, and a central relationship that has to survive both external threats and the heroine’s growing power.

The Game Maker novels move the danger into contemporary settings. In The Professional, The Master, and The Player, she follows three powerful Sevastyan brothers through Russian crime syndicates, high‑stakes politics, and Las Vegas cons. These books are some of her most explicit, but beneath the kink and glamour they are still about trust, trauma, and building a family from the wreckage of old lives.

Her historical backlist, including The Captain of All Pleasures and If You Dare, remains a favorite jumping‑off point for readers who enjoy swords, ships, and ballroom scenes as much as supernatural battles. Those stories often feel smaller in scale than the later series yet carry the same sense that the world beyond the couple is real and unpredictable.

Over the years her work has picked up multiple major romance awards, been translated widely, and hit bestseller lists in several genres. She has also moved into more direct control of her publishing, releasing newer Immortals After Dark titles through her own imprint while continuing to experiment with format and tone.

Today she lives in Florida with her family and more animals than she probably planned for. When she is not writing, she travels, collects ideas from places that catch her eye, and then folds those details back into new books. The result is a bibliography that ranges from haunted bayous and Scottish ruins to hell realms, tarot‑scarred deserts, and glittering Russian palaces, all tied together by big feelings and unapologetically swoony romance.
