Series background & context

Knoxville FBI is Bradford's higher-stakes series, set around a Tennessee FBI team fighting trafficking and the fallout it leaves behind. The books still include romance and faith, but the cases hit harder and connect more tightly from one novel to the next. If you want the full arc, start with Revenge Ignited and then move into Into the Flames.

The early books center on agents Dylan Harris and Jacq Sheppard. In Into the Flames, a kidnapped girl case pulls them into conflict over the evidence and into deeper danger as trafficking connections begin to surface. Their history, family pressure, and growing attraction keep the story personal even when the investigation widens.

Jacq is one of the emotional anchors of the series. In Under Fire, her search for a missing young woman brings back the possibility that her long-lost friend Morgan may still be alive. That idea pushes the team into riskier territory, and it also turns the bigger trafficking storyline into something more intimate and painful than a standard procedural.

This series plays for higher stakes.

Later books shift more of the focus to Gio Crespi and Morgan. Smoky Escape deals with rescue, trauma, and the awful pull of a life Morgan has been trapped in for years. Out of the Ashes looks at what freedom actually costs once the immediate danger has passed, and whether recovery is possible when memory itself feels broken. Bradford handles those questions through suspense, but the emotional recovery is just as central as catching the bad guy.

Compared with the Hazel Hill books, Knoxville FBI is darker, faster, and more serialized. The series asks readers to follow the team through long-running danger, complicated family dynamics, and a faith thread that stays close to the surface. Because the books build on one another, reading in order helps a lot. If you like romantic suspense that leans more toward federal investigations and ongoing danger than small-town mystery, this is probably the best place to go next.
