My Rules

2024

Determined to avoid another bad relationship, a woman enlists her charming neighbor Blake Grayson as a dating adviser. Their wingman arrangement grows into intimacy, forcing her to confront feelings for the very kind of man she distrusts.

Series background & context

Kingston Lane is a contemporary romance series about people whose love lives become difficult to keep separate from the neighbourhood around them. T L Swan follows different couples within a connected circle, using nearby homes and established friendships to bring characters together repeatedly. The stories combine explicit romance with arguments, humour and the effort to begin again after disappointment.

Moving on is harder when the person involved lives next door.

My Temptation begins with Juliet's attraction to Henley James. Their first date seems to promise something more, but he disappears from her life afterwards. Three years later, Juliet buys a house on Kingston Lane and discovers that her new neighbour is the same man. Her hope of a fresh start now includes someone she has good reason to resent, along with feelings that haven't entirely gone away.

Henley's charm doesn't erase that history. Living beside him means Juliet can't treat their encounter as something safely finished, and irritation becomes mixed with renewed attraction. The neighbourhood gives them reasons to cross paths rather than allowing a clean break. Their romance grows out of that uncomfortable proximity, asking whether the person who once disappointed her deserves another chance and whether either of them understands the other as well as they think.

The second novel, My Rules, turns to Rebecca Dalton and her best friend, Dr Blake Grayson. Rebecca's husband has cheated on her, and trying to return to dating brings a run of discouraging experiences. She asks Blake to help her navigate that world. His reputation as a playboy makes him a questionable romantic prospect, but it also seems to qualify him to explain the men she wants to avoid.

That arrangement puts a familiar friendship under new pressure. Blake is someone Rebecca already relies on, yet their attraction makes it difficult to keep him in the role of adviser. The emotional risk differs from Juliet's situation: instead of an unresolved first encounter, Rebecca faces the possibility of changing a relationship that already matters to her. Learning to trust her own choices is part of deciding what she wants from him.

The shared setting connects the books without making every couple face the same problem. One story uses neighbours and unfinished business, while another explores the move from friendship towards romance after betrayal. Start with My Temptation to meet the neighbourhood, then continue with My Rules as attention shifts within the circle. The series suits readers who enjoy a social world around the central couple, with friends, familiar faces and everyday encounters contributing to the romantic tension.
