Killian Carter Books in Order

Killian Carter writes science fiction that moves between starship action, political trouble, and mystery. He is best known for the Galactic Sentinel novels, while The Lunar Express takes a future-set private-eye story in a different direction.

Public biographical notes are light on his childhood and early career. By 2017, though, Carter was introducing himself as a science-fiction writer who also enjoyed working in fantasy, with a short-story collection called Paradigm and a novel called The Fury and the Star among the projects he was preparing.

In 2018, The North Star launched the Galactic Sentinel storyline. It begins with First Commander Jason Grimshaw on what should be a routine training mission to Colony 115. Instead, an unknown alien vessel forces his ship down on a hostile planet, splitting the crew and putting Ensign Clio Evans in a fight to reach them. Elsewhere, Randis Kahn faces gang violence and a political conspiracy on Sentinel Station.

That crash landing sets the tone for Carter's largest series.

The next book, Enter The Shroud, broadens the story from survival to galactic politics. Grimshaw, Evans, and Taza arrive at the Galactic Sentinel expecting a quick handoff and a return to Fleet Academy Four. Riots, suspected Chimera terrorists, and an approaching invasion make that impossible. The book keeps the action moving while showing how much danger can hide inside an alliance's own institutions.

In The Shadow Falls, the stakes become more urgent. An ancient disease threatens one of the Alliance's few allies, sending Grimshaw and Evans into enemy territory for a cure. At the same time, Taza investigates murders in the Shroud, and sightings of Aphnai warships suggest that a wider conflict is closing in. The story keeps several threads in motion without losing sight of the crew at the center of it.

Carter later shifted gears with The Lunar Express. Max Miller is a New York investigator with a sharp reputation, a dog named Cat, and no interest in travelling through space. When mobster Frankie Denaro pushes a case involving Luna onto him, Max is dragged into exactly the kind of trip he wants to avoid. It is a smaller-scale setup than Galactic Sentinel, but it keeps Carter's interest in pressure, secrets, and people making choices with few good options.

The scope is big, but the problems are often personal.

Across these books, Carter returns to crews under strain, uneasy partnerships, criminal networks, political schemes, and enemies that are not always easy to understand. His science fiction has room for military missions and alien threats, but the stories also make space for banter, grudges, and characters who would rather be somewhere else.

A short author profile offers a few everyday details. Carter has described living on an island in the Atlantic with his wife, two daughters, and three Chihuahuas. It is a quieter image than the galaxies in his fiction, and a useful reminder that even writers of alien invasions make room for family life.
