Author bio

Kerry Lonsdale writes novels where family trouble, buried secrets, romance, and suspense all share the same space. She describes her work as a mix of domestic suspense, family drama, and romance, and that feels right. Even when the setup sounds familiar, she likes to tilt it sideways.

She started young.

In second grade she wrote a story, complete with crayon illustrations, about a witch on a hill, and she kept going from there. As a teenager she wrote fanfiction about rock stars and read the sort of twisty, emotional books that later shaped her own fiction.

For a long time, though, writing fiction felt more like a private wish than a real career path. Before turning to novels, she worked as a marketing executive, writing copy and leading teams in the high-tech world. In 2010, when she chose to stay home with her children, she made herself a deal: give writing five years to land an agent and a publishing contract, or go back to marketing.

She did not need the full five. Her debut, Everything We Keep, arrived in 2016 and introduced many readers to what she does well: take a strong emotional setup, add a mystery, and keep tightening the screws. That book launched the Everything series, with Everything We Left Behind and Everything We Give following the fallout of love, loss, and hidden truths across several lives.

Family mess is her sweet spot.

The No More books show that clearly. No More Words, No More Lies, and No More Secrets follow the Carson siblings as one long-buried event keeps reshaping their lives years later. Readers who like her work tend to mention the same mix again and again: secrets with consequences, relationships under pressure, and just enough suspense to make one more chapter feel necessary.

Her standalones play with that same blend in different ways. All the Breaking Waves brings in a light touch of the uncanny alongside motherhood and guilt. Last Summer turns memory loss into a knotty emotional mystery. Side Trip takes a road trip setup and turns it into a story about timing, grief, and second chances. Find Me in California and Falling for You Again lean into family bonds, old wounds, and the way love rarely arrives at a convenient moment.

Across her books, certain patterns keep showing up. California settings matter. So do family loyalties, long-kept secrets, missing pieces from the past, and people trying to rebuild after life goes badly off plan. She likes characters who are capable but rattled, and stories where romance has to survive real complications instead of just a misunderstanding.

Outside her novels, Lonsdale has also helped build community for other writers. She is one of the founders of the Women's Fiction Writers Association. Her books have been translated into twenty-seven languages and reached millions of readers.

These days she lives in Northern California with her husband, her kids when they are home, and three rescue cats. She has said mornings are for writing, afternoons are for the business side of the job, and unless a deadline is looming, that balance suits her just fine. She also has no interest in going back to cubicles and sterile meeting rooms.
