Series background & context
Keepers of Enchantment opens with a caged princess and only gets bigger from there.
The setting is the Enchanted Forest, but not in the soft, storybook sense. This is another one of Moreno's darker fairy-tale worlds, full of old power, violence, and people who have to survive by becoming harder than the stories written about them. Charming as a Killer introduces Aurelia, who has spent years trapped in Prince Phillip's golden court while attacks from giants push the wider world toward crisis. Jack, the Giant Killer, enters as a hired weapon and immediately complicates everything.
From there, the series widens. Ethereal as a Swan and Tricky as a Thief keep building the map of the forest and the dangers around it. Jill's story, in particular, makes it clear that the world is connected to Under and to a larger supernatural problem involving demons, rot, and the Followers of the Crimson Merge. By the time Compelling as a Piper arrives, the series is openly working on a shared-world level rather than just one romance at a time.
That is the best way to approach these books. Yes, each installment has its own couple and its own fairy-tale angle. But the ongoing threat matters. The forest is changing. Old evils are on the move. Characters do not live in sealed-off little retellings. They share the same danger.
The tone is dark fantasy romance with a strong adventure streak. Expect killers, prisoners, thieves, monsters, and women who are done waiting for rescue.
If you like connected fairy-tale retellings that grow more complex as they go, Keepers of Enchantment offers a lot to dig into. It rewards reading in order, because the world keeps widening beneath your feet.
