Author bio

Kate Stewart is a Texas native who has built a devoted following writing the kind of love stories that do not shy away from mess, desire, or hard choices. Best known for The Ravenhood books and the Bittersweet Symphony Duet, she moves easily between romcom, erotic suspense, and gut-punch contemporary romance.

She grew up in Texas, spent years living in Charleston, South Carolina, and eventually settled in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains with her husband, Nick, and their dog.

Before publishing full time, she worked a more traditional job for nearly a decade. A spontaneous trip to Charleston nudged her toward something different. She left that career, treated the city as a creative reset, and began drafting the stories she wanted to read: contemporary romances full of music, pop culture, and characters who feel like real people on their worst and best days.

Her early novels, including Never Me, Room 212, and Loving the White Liar, set the tone for what readers now expect from her work. Those books introduced flawed heroines, complicated heroes, and taboo topics like infidelity, addiction, and adult ADHD, all handled with a mix of frankness and empathy. She has never been much interested in perfect characters; she would rather follow people who are trying, failing, and trying again.

Music sits at the center of much of her writing. In the Bittersweet Symphony Duet, starting with Drive and continuing in Reverse and the novella Bittersweet Melody, she uses playlists, concerts, and band life as a backdrop for a sweeping love story told across generations. Drive was named one of the standout romances of 2017 and became a finalist for the Goodreads Choice Award for contemporary romance, bringing many new readers to her backlist.

The Ravenhood Trilogy—Flock, Exodus, and The Finish Line—thrust her onto an even bigger stage. Set in the factory town of Triple Falls, the books blend Robin Hood–style vigilante justice with an intense, morally gray love story that has become a phenomenon with online readers. A spin-off sequence, The Ravenhood Legacy, revisits the world through new eyes. The original trilogy and its legacy books have sold widely, hit major bestseller lists, and are in development for a screen adaptation that she is slated to co-write and executive produce.

Around those marquee titles, she has built a catalog that ranges from sports and small-town romance to Hollywood drama and holiday chaos. The Balls in Play and Underdogs series explore found family and underdog athletes. Heartbreak Warfare tackles the fallout of war and emotional betrayal. Method digs into the cost of method acting on a marriage, while The Plight Before Christmas and Euro Dreams lean into humor, family disasters, and travel.

Across all of these books, certain patterns repeat. Her stories are packed with big feeling, second chances, and characters who are allowed to make unforgivable mistakes before they begin to grow. She loves settings that feel lived-in—stadiums, garages, cramped apartments, crowded tour buses—and friendships that matter as much as romance.

Away from the page, she is a fan of everything 1980s and 1990s, especially John Hughes movies and old-school rap. She has spoken often about how music drives her drafting process, how she’ll build a playlist long before she writes a first chapter. In quieter moments she takes photos, knits simple scarves when the mood strikes, travels whenever she can, and enjoys good whiskey with friends. All of it feeds back into the work, giving her fiction the sense that life is never tidy, but it is often worth the risk.
