Author bio
Karen Fenech writes romantic suspense, along with shorter suspense fiction and erotic romance. Her stories put people under pressure, then ask whether trust can survive secrets, danger, and the complications of falling in love.
She wanted to write novels from an early age. At ten, she attempted a book inspired by the Nancy Drew mysteries she loved. As she grew up, mysteries still held her attention, but so did the changing relationships between characters. That combination became the foundation of her own work.
Her first novel, Unholy Angels, took two years to write. Fenech worked on it in the gaps of everyday life, carrying a notebook while running errands and jotting down scenes in places such as waiting rooms, deli lines, and checkout counters. At home, she turned those notes into a finished story.
Writing found its way into the day wherever it could.
Unholy Angels introduced the mix that appears throughout much of Fenech's work: a mystery with real personal stakes, a threatened family, and a romantic connection complicated by uncertainty. In Gone, FBI agent Clare Marshall searches for the sister she was separated from as a child, while working again with a former lover. Betrayal moves the danger to a medieval setting, where Lady Katherine Stanfield must face a past decision that still puts her family at risk.
Her longest-running group of linked novels is The Protectors. These books follow people with backgrounds in law enforcement, intelligence, the military, and special operations. The characters may work separately, but their ties run deep. A CIA operative, FBI agents, police officers, Navy SEALs, and people caught in dangerous situations all cross paths as the series moves from one high-risk case to another.
The two-book Malice series narrows the focus to FBI agent Paige Carson and her boss, Sam McKade. Beginning with Breath of Malice, the books combine an active investigation with the aftermath of a killer's attention. Paige and Sam have to do their jobs while deciding how much of themselves they can safely give to each other.
In Fenech's books, love and danger tend to arrive together.
She has also written shorter work, including Deadly Thoughts, Secrets, The Plan, and the collection Three Deadly Short Stories of Suspense. Those compact stories keep the focus tight, often centering on a bad decision, a hidden truth, or a plan that goes wrong. Her erotic romance novella His Touch follows Corinne and former Navy SEAL Nate Stanton and includes darker material involving domination and bondage.
Fenech lives with her husband and daughter. Away from writing and family time, she has said she enjoys reading, shopping, and watching movies. It fits the practical, reader-friendly feel of her fiction: intimate relationships, immediate danger, and characters who have to act before time runs out.
