Author bio

Juno Rushdan grew up in New York City, but her fiction rarely stays in one place for long. Travel has been part of her life for years. She has visited more than twenty countries and has lived in England and Germany, which helps explain why her books can move easily from intimate small-town danger to bigger national-security threats.

She writes like someone who knows how fast a quiet day can turn.

Before fiction became her full-time job, Rushdan served as a US Air Force intelligence officer. In interviews, she has said that 9/11 changed her deeply while she was going through intelligence school. She later supported special forces and worked with chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high-yield explosive threat assessments, experience that gave her a grounded feel for risk, urgency, and the cost of service.

That background runs straight through her romantic thrillers. Rushdan likes skilled people under pressure: operatives, marshals, negotiators, hackers, investigators, and agents who are trying to do the right thing while everything around them goes sideways. At least one lead in her books usually has a military or law-enforcement connection, and the idea of service before self shows up again and again.

That mix helps explain why her books feel both hard-driving and romantic. The danger is real, but Rushdan never loses sight of the relationship at the center of the story. Her heroines are often just as decisive and professionally capable as her heroes, and the emotional payoff comes from watching two competent people learn how to trust each other.

The clearest example is the Final Hour series, which opens with Every Last Breath. Those books combine covert missions, bioweapon threats, betrayal, and second-chance romance at a very fast clip. Nothing to Fear and Until the End keep building that world, and readers who like spycraft, team tension, and emotional stakes usually end up there first.

No classified leaks, just sharp fictional trouble.

Rushdan can also narrow the lens without losing speed. In Hostile Pursuit and the rest of the Hard Core Justice books, US Marshals and witnesses are trapped in the kind of cases where safe houses stop feeling safe. In Rogue Christmas Operation and the Fugitive Heroes: Topaz Unit series, disavowed operatives go on the run and try to clear their names before a kill squad catches up. Then there are the Wyoming books, starting with Wyoming Winter Rescue, where blizzards, ranch country, cults, kidnappings, and family history add a western edge to the suspense.

Place matters in Rushdan's fiction.

Whether the setting is Alaska, Virginia, Wyoming, or Montana, her stories tend to pair capable heroines with equally tested men and then let pressure reveal character. Readers who like her work often point to the same things: fast pacing, believable action, protective instincts, and romances that grow out of competence instead of wishful thinking. More recently, Big Sky Slayer continues that pattern in Montana, with a local investigation, a sniper case, and another couple forced to trust each other fast.

Rushdan has written more than twenty-five novels and now writes full-time in northern Virginia. She lives there with her husband, two children, and three rescue dogs. She has also said that she met her husband overseas, which feels very much in step with the life behind the books, restless, curious, and always ready to move.
