Fugitive Heroes: Topaz Unit is Rushdan in full on-the-run spy mode. The four books follow members of a CIA assassination team code-named TOPAZ after they have been framed for treason and marked for death. That premise gives the whole series a built-in engine: every book has its own romance, but every book is also part of a larger fight to stay alive long enough to learn who betrayed them.

Nobody in this series gets to lie low for long.

Rogue Christmas Operation starts with Gage Graham and Hope Fischer, whose search for answers pulls them into a closed Virginia town and straight toward a killer. Alaskan Christmas Escape moves to the wilderness with hacker Zenobia Hanley and wounded SEAL John Lowry, where hiding from a CIA kill squad is only part of the problem. Disavowed in Wyoming brings former operative Dean Delgado back home, and An Operative's Last Stand pushes team leader Hunter Wright toward the truth about who set TOPAZ up.

What makes the series work is the balance between the running arc and the individual couples. Gage, Zee, Dean, and Hunter each get a distinct story, but the books all share the same pressure of surveillance, missing intel, secret handlers, and enemies who can reach almost anywhere. The romance never replaces the espionage plot. It has to grow inside it.

Trust has to be earned fast.

Expect strong military and intelligence detail, winter settings, narrow escapes, and leads who are used to solving problems alone. Rushdan also likes pairing highly trained, guarded people with characters who challenge that secrecy. The result is tense, emotional, and a little more survival-driven than some of her other series.

If you like disavowed operatives, team-wide mysteries, and romantic suspense that keeps looking over its shoulder, this series is a good bet. It reads best in order, because the biggest question, who framed TOPAZ and why, tightens with every book.
