The First Sacrifice returns to John roughly twenty years later. He has made a quieter life for himself in Boston, running a movie house, until a message from his estranged sister draws him to post-unification Germany. Her daughter has disappeared, and John quickly realizes that the ideology he fought before is no longer hidden in the same way.

The second book has a different historical moment, with a newly unified Germany, visible neo-Nazi violence, and a charismatic figure promising national renewal. But it keeps the series' main question intact: what happens when private family secrets connect to movements built on fear and power?

Expect a broad, serious-toned thriller with political danger, family conflict, and a hero who would rather live quietly but cannot ignore what he knows.
