The Jill Kismet series follows an occult hunter responsible for keeping the city of Santa Luz safe after dark. Jill works with the police when a crime crosses into the supernatural, but her job reaches far beyond ordinary investigation. She tracks hellbreed, rogue weres, possessed killers, and other threats most citizens never see. Her strength comes partly from training and partly from a bargain she made with the hellbreed Perry.

That bargain never stops being dangerous.

Jill was trained by Mikhail, a hunter whose death left her with his territory, his responsibilities, and a great deal of unresolved grief. Perry's mark gives her extra speed and power, yet it also ties her to a creature who enjoys testing limits. Jill has allies among the police and the supernatural community, but she is often the person who must enter the room first, identify the monster, and decide what force is necessary.

Night Shift establishes the rules as Jill investigates brutal killings linked to rogue weres and hellbreed activity. Hunter's Prayer brings a series of murdered women and an older evil into her path. In Redemption Alley, a suspicious death opens onto drugs, corrupt officers, and a threat that reaches people Jill considers family. Each case is self-contained enough to provide a clear mystery, while the consequences accumulate.

The middle and later books become even more personal. Flesh Circus begins when the Cirque de Charnu arrives in Santa Luz and performers start dying amid zombies, old vengeance, and occult politics. Heaven's Spite forces Jill into uneasy cooperation with dangerous beings, including Perry, while her need for revenge threatens her judgment. Angel Town opens with Jill waking in her own grave, stripped of memory but still certain that someone has work for her to do.

Santa Luz gives the series a gritty police-procedural frame. Crime scenes, precinct conversations, weapons checks, and patrol routines sit beside demon bargains and magical wards. The tone is dark, fast, and physically rough. Jill is formidable, but the books do not pretend the work leaves her untouched. Pain, guilt, and anger travel with her, as does the question of how much of herself she can spend protecting one city.

Read from Night Shift through Angel Town in order. The individual investigations are satisfying on their own, but Jill's relationships, Perry's influence, and the cost of her choices develop continuously. Expect monster hunting, hard cases, sharp dialogue, and a heroine who treats survival as a duty rather than a victory.
