Author bio

Jennifer Griffith grew up in Idaho, studied English and Japanese at Utah State University, and spent part of her college years living in Japan. That mix of small-town American life, language study, travel, and culture shock has stayed with her work ever since. Even when her stories are light on the surface, they usually carry a strong sense of place and a real fondness for people trying to figure out where they belong.

Before fiction took over, she worked as a writer for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. She also wrote for newspapers, with work appearing locally and in The Chicago Tribune and Meridian. That background helps explain one of the steady pleasures of her books: even the fluffiest setup usually has a clear, brisk shape underneath it.

Then life changed direction.

Griffith has said she did not try writing fiction until after her first son was born. What started later than some writing careers turned into a very full one. She has now published more than fifty books, both traditionally and independently, across Christmas romance, romantic comedy, legal romance, beach billionaire stories, young adult fiction, and a few suspense-leaning books with strong romantic threads.

A lot of her readers come to her for the feeling as much as the plot. Her stories are clean, funny, and built around chemistry, awkward situations, and emotionally decent people. She likes small towns, reunions, second chances, holiday pressure, and the kind of kiss that has clearly been earned.

Her range is wider than it first appears. Big in Japan draws on her time overseas and follows Buck Cooper into the very unexpected world of accidental sumo. The book has been selected for both high school and college curriculum, and it was later optioned for film. On the romance side, Legally Wedded became one of her most-read books, while Second First Kiss won a Swoony Award for best medical romance. Holiday readers often start with The Christmas Cookie House or Christmas at Holly Berry Cottage, which show how well she handles family chaos, longing, and festive small-town settings.

She also writes in clusters of related worlds.

That matters with Griffith. Her Christmas books, legal romcoms, reunion romances, and billionaire stories often connect through tone, setting, or recurring side characters, so readers who like one corner of the catalog usually find an easy path into another. Again and again, she returns to smart women, capable men, hometown complications, and communities where everyone seems to know just enough to be helpful or dangerous.

Griffith has said she is not trying to write the Great American Novel. She would rather write the book someone happily reads on a rainy afternoon with cocoa, or on a beach chair while the waves roll in. She even has a name for that feeling, Cotton Candy for the Soul.

Today she lives in the Arizona desert with her husband, Gary, and their five children. She has also spoken at conferences and workshops, and that mix of professional discipline and warm, homespun humor feels very true to the books themselves. They are tidy little escapes, yes, but they are written by someone who clearly takes readers seriously.
