A marriage may solve a money problem. A lawyer may be the last person a heroine wants to trust. A brother's best friend may be the only safe option in a difficult situation. A will, a courtroom problem, or a family feud can turn romance into a terrible idea very quickly.

What separates these books from straight legal romance is the focus on awkward setup and emotional resistance. Even when law and paperwork matter, the heartbeat of the series is personal. Characters are often trying to protect dignity, independence, or a carefully managed life. Falling in love is not on the schedule, which is why it hits so hard when it arrives.
