Author bio

Jenna Bennett was born and raised in Norway, and moved to the United States when she was about twenty. She has since made her home in Nashville, Tennessee.

Long before she was publishing fiction, she’d already built a life around observation and reinvention. She’s worked a variety of jobs and, over the years, spent a lot of time in and around houses and neighborhoods through real estate and home renovation. It’s not hard to see why her stories are full of floor plans, contracts, and the way a “fresh start” can turn complicated fast.

Writing let her keep all those worlds on the page at once.

Bennett first reached mystery readers with the Do-It-Yourself series, written as Jennie Bentley and published by Berkley Prime Crime. It starts with Fatal Fixer-Upper, introducing Avery Baker, a big-city designer who heads to small-town Maine and finds that fixer-uppers come with more than leaky roofs. Derek Ellis, the local handyman, becomes Avery’s partner in both renovation and investigation as the series keeps finding new reasons to pick up a paintbrush and a clue.

Her other long-running mystery line follows Savannah Martin, a recovering Southern belle who remakes herself as a real estate agent in Nashville. The premise sounds like a clean break until Savannah walks into her first crime scene and meets Rafael “Rafe” Collier, equal parts trouble and temptation. Early books like A Cutthroat Business, Hot Property, and Contract Pending blend murder cases with family pressure, romantic tension, and the everyday stress of trying to make a new career stick.

One thing readers tend to notice is how grounded the work feels. Bennett likes concrete details, how a closing works, what a renovation really costs, how gossip travels in a small town. Her humor is sharp but not mean, and the emotional stakes usually matter as much as the body on the floor.

She’s especially interested in what people will do for money, status, or a sense of belonging.

When she wants an even tighter focus on relationships and secrets, she shifts to Fidelity Investigations. Those books center on Gina Beaufort Kelly, a jilted trophy wife in Nashville who becomes a fledgling private investigator with a specialty in cheating spouses, and a knack for landing in bigger trouble than she expected.

Bennett also writes romance and suspense outside the cozy lane. In Alpha Squad, the heroes are Navy SEALs and the danger tends to arrive with guns and deadlines. In Soldiers of Fortune, starting with Fortune's Hero and Fortune's Honor, she goes full science fiction, with a crew on the run, prison worlds, and hard choices that still leave room for an earned love story. And if you’re in the mood for something playful, Tall, Dark and Divine drops Greek gods into modern dating chaos.

Across more than forty books, the throughline is simple: capable women rebuilding their lives, men who don’t fit the polite plan, and mysteries that grow out of very human motives. Whether she’s writing Maine renovations, Tennessee small-town politics, or 1920s English society in the Pippa Darling books, she keeps the voice conversational and the pages turning.
