Series background & context

The Jayce Ventura books are Serena Akeroyd's ghost-detective paranormal romances. They are lighter in scale than her big connected universes, but they still have a clear hook, Jayce can see and work with the dead, and that gift keeps pulling her into cases where unfinished business is never simple.

The first book introduces her as someone whose closest companions are ghosts, which sets the tone right away. The series mixes mystery, supernatural atmosphere, and romance without losing its sense of humor. Jayce is dealing with murder, grief, and danger, but the books do not forget to be fun.

That balance is the charm.

Instead of sprawling worldbuilding, these stories focus on one heroine with a very unusual job and the emotional chaos that follows from it. Each case gives the romance pressure while also letting the paranormal element stay central.

If you like ghost stories with a romantic core, this is a strong backlist pick. Start with Ghost Detective and keep going, because the appeal of the series is watching Jayce grow into her gift while the people around her finally catch up.
