The setting matters because Jasmine is seeing a lot for the first time, but the books still stay rooted in character.

That balance is the series' real strength. Readers get cultural details, food, holidays, travel, and family traditions, but always through stories that feel playful and immediate. Jasmine is not there to teach lessons. She is there to live her life, get things wrong, try again, and slowly grow.
