Jagged Peaks Mountain is Rae B Lake's outlaw mountain romantic suspense series, and the name tells you a lot. This is not a cozy cabin fantasy. The mountain is rough, isolated, and full of people who either ran there for a reason or were shaped by violence long before they arrived.

The first book, Secret Capture, opens with Dane, a retired killer who wants one simple thing, peace. Of course, Jagged Peaks is the wrong place to expect that. The mountain is described as home to murders and maniacs, and that mood hangs over the whole series. Book two, Buried Memories, shifts into amnesia and recovery, with a heroine waking in the hospital and trying to rebuild a life without knowing her own past. That move helps show what the series does best. It takes damaged people, puts them in a hard landscape, and lets the suspense come from both outside danger and buried personal history.

The mountain itself feels like a character. It gives hiding places, but it also traps people. You can disappear there, but you cannot necessarily start clean. Old skills, old enemies, and old damage have a way of climbing back up the road.

That is the hook.

Compared with Lake's biker books, these stories feel more secluded and a little moodier. The violence is still there, but it is tied to survival, secrecy, and the question of whether a man built for killing can ever really live quietly.
