Author bio

Irene Hannon grew up in Brentwood, a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri, in a family that valued stories and words. She spent plenty of time at the local library, and later worked there while she was still in school. That early mix of books, quiet observation, and Midwestern community life shows up again and again in her fiction.

Books came early.

At 10, she was recognized in a national children's magazine complete the story contest, a small but memorable nudge toward fiction. She went on to earn a BA in psychology from Saint Louis University and an MA in journalism from the University of Missouri in Columbia. Those two fields, people and communication, turned out to be a strong foundation for a novelist.

Before writing full time, she built a long career in corporate communications with a Fortune 500 company. For years she balanced that job with writing novels on the side, then eventually left the executive world to focus on fiction full time. It was a practical leap, but also a personal one.

Her books generally fall into two clear lanes. On the suspense side, novels like Dangerous Illusions, Point of Danger, and Into the Fire pair crime driven plots with steady romance and clean, readable tension. On the relationship side, books like Hope Harbor and Sea Rose Lane lean into second chances, small-town healing, and people figuring out how to build a good life after loss or disappointment.

Readers tend to come back for a few specific reasons. Hannon likes capable adults, ordinary jobs, and settings that feel lived in, whether that is a coastal Oregon town, a Missouri county, or a federal investigation gone sideways. Her stories usually keep faith, forgiveness, and emotional recovery in view, but she writes them through character and conflict, not sermons.

She has also had the kind of career that built steadily over time. Hannon has written more than seventy novels, sold millions of books, won three RITA Awards, and was inducted into the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame. She has also picked up honors across both her suspense and romance work, which fits a writer who has never stayed in just one corner of the shelf.

Another thread in her life is music. She has trained as a vocalist and has sung leading roles in musicals, which may help explain the rhythm and polish readers often notice in her prose. When she is not writing, she has said she enjoys singing, travel, hiking, gardening, cooking, and family time.

She lives in Missouri with her husband.

If you are new to her work, the nice thing about Irene Hannon is that you can pick your lane. You can start with the danger and momentum of the suspense novels, or with the gentler, hope-filled romances. Either way, you are usually getting the same promise: grounded characters, real problems, and the sense that hard seasons do not get the last word.
