Inspector Iwata Books in Order

Inspector Iwata and his partner investigate the murder of a Tokyo family, marked by a painted black sun. The earlier detective's apparent suicide and signs of further killings complicate their search for an elusive murderer.

Working as a private investigator in California, former Tokyo detective Kosuke Iwata receives a missing-wife case from a threatening Serbian man. Clues involving Catalina Island and a red-haired girl point toward a woman determined to disappear.

Now a private investigator in Los Angeles, Kosuke Iwata agrees to reopen the murder of an old acquaintance's daughter. A witness's account of the killer's apology leads him from Skid Row toward the Sonoran Desert.

Called back to Tokyo, Kosuke Iwata investigates an English exchange student's murder shortly before the Olympics. Officials demand a quick resolution, but the killer's ordinary appearance and routine conceal a danger that resists easy detection.
