Imperium Galactic Books in Order

Imperium Galactic feels like Timothy Ellis stepping back and giving the wider universe a rotating spotlight. Instead of following one lead all the way through, these books move among different characters who already matter to the setting, then hand each of them a turn at the center.

That structure is a big part of the appeal.

Each book has its own focal character and problem. A king who did not plan to rule. A hard-driving officer. A future matriarch. An old friend thought long gone. A pilot who is no longer young. Jon himself turning back toward war. Dragons becoming impossible to ignore. Because of that, the series reads almost like a linked mosaic. The pieces are separate enough to have their own flavor, but together they show how wide the consequences of the Imperium have become.

The tone still leans military and political. Power is always being negotiated, defended, inherited, or challenged. But compared with something like The Hunter Legacy, these books are more willing to pause with a side character and ask what leadership looks like from their position. Titles such as Mage King, Matriarch, Bonko's Club, CAG, and Dawn Patrol tell you exactly that. The series is interested in the people who keep the larger machine working, not just the ones who started it.

That also means the settings vary nicely from book to book. Some are court-like, some squadron-based, some much closer to ground-level struggle, and some openly fantastical once dragons and magic get loose. Ellis uses those shifts to keep the universe feeling active rather than repetitive. The same war can look very different depending on who is stuck living through it.

Even with the changing cast, the through-line stays solid. These are books about responsibility, command, loyalty, and the way history keeps pulling people into roles they did not choose.

If you already enjoy the Hunter universe and want to see it broaden through different eyes, Imperium Galactic is one of the most rewarding branches. It makes the setting feel inhabited from top to bottom.
