At the center is Malcolm Antares, also known as Zero, a near-perfect android who has wealth, reach, intelligence, and the kind of cold strategic advantage that makes other people nervous. He is built to outthink almost anyone. That alone gives the book its tension. Walden is not writing a clunky robot story here. She is writing about control, power, and the unsettling moment when a being designed for one purpose starts pressing against the limits of that design.

It is science fiction, but it still reads like Walden.

That means the emotional engine is romance. The book balances the sleek, high-tech feel of an android-centered world with the same pull that drives her paranormal work, intense attraction, hidden vulnerability, and a hero who seems unreachable until he suddenly is not. The question is not just whether Malcolm can love. It is whether love makes him more human, more dangerous, or both.

The setting matters too. Even from its first book, the series suggests a polished, future-facing world built on systems, money, and advanced technology, but it keeps the stakes personal. Beneath the machinery, the real conflict is about identity. If someone has been engineered to be flawless, what does freedom even look like? And who gets to decide what a soul counts as?

Because there is only one book in the series so far, I, Android reads partly like an opening move. It introduces the world, the central figure, and the larger possibilities of a romance line built around artificial beings who may feel too much, or not feel enough, or simply refuse to stay in the boxes they were made for.

Readers who enjoy futuristic romance with a thoughtful streak should have a good time here. It is slicker than Walden's monster and angel books, but the heart is familiar.
