Author bio

Hope Ramsay was born in New York and grew up on the North Shore of Long Island, but a big part of her imagination was shaped farther south. As a girl, she spent time with relatives in the midlands of South Carolina, soaking up family stories, church life, local gossip, and the rhythms of small-town Southern living. Those visits gave her a lasting feel for place, and that feeling runs through much of her fiction.

Those South Carolina summers mattered.

Before she published romance novels, Ramsay took a longer route than many writers do. She studied political science at the University at Buffalo, then worked in a run of real-world jobs that included being a congressional aide, a lobbyist, a public relations consultant, and a meeting planner. None of that looks much like a romance novel at first glance, but it gave her something useful, a close view of ambition, family pressure, compromise, disappointment, and the strange ways people talk around what they really want.

Eventually, writing won.

A lot of readers first meet her through Welcome to Last Chance, the opening book in her South Carolina small-town series. It sets the pattern she does especially well: a close community, a couple carrying more hurt than they admit, and a whole cast of neighbors who are more than willing to interfere. Books like Home at Last Chance and Last Chance Christmas build on that world with family ties, old secrets, gossip, humor, and a steady belief in second chances.

Her books are warm, but they are not weightless. Ramsay likes characters who are starting over, coming home, or trying to build a life after something has gone badly off course. In the Chapel of Love books, including A Christmas Bride and Here Comes the Bride, weddings, family expectations, and social pressure push people into emotional corners they can no longer avoid. In A Fairytale Bride, even a quiet bookstore becomes the place where somebody might finally stop running.

The Moonlight Bay novels move the action to the South Carolina coast, but the emotional center stays familiar. The Cottage on Rose Lane and Return to Magnolia Harbor lean into family history, old misunderstandings, and the pull of home, while The Beachside Bed and Breakfast shows Ramsay's gentler side, with grief, friendship, faith, and the possibility of love after loss. Whether she is writing about a widow, a veterinarian, an architect, a musician, or a wedding planner, she keeps her eye on emotional repair.

That mix has connected with a lot of readers.

Ramsay is a USA Today bestselling author and a two-time Golden Heart finalist. She now lives in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Her children are grown, and when she is not writing she spends time knitting, walking the dog, and noodling around on her guitars. She has also said that her husband, a Georgia boy, helped inspire the Southern heroes who turn up again and again in her books. That small personal detail fits the novels well. They feel lived in, musical, funny in the right places, and full of affection for imperfect people trying to get one more chance right.
